Guys, I think DC might just be my favorite city right now.

The average person might see national monuments, museums, outdoor events and tons of history. I see food. Good food everywhere and tons of it.
DC’s diversity has influenced many great different cuisines from all over the world, like delicious Peruvian dishes, Ethiopian food and of course, legendary Jose Andres’ delicious restaurants in this energetic and bustling city. These of course are top priority on my list for my next visit and will follow a DC food guide 2.0.
But let’s talk about what I did eat and where you want to go.
For Brunch, your visit to DC is not complete without a trip to Busboys and Poets. It’s a fantastic quality brunch spot in busy Columbia Heights that shares its space with a small bookshop.

There’s also a space in the back that is sometimes closed off for poetry reading nights.
They have a very creative and delicious brunch and coffee menu. I went with their lox on bagel and a cappuccino. Everything was perfectly fresh and delicious! Their other brunch options, like their thick french toast, look absolutely amazing!
Stop by here on a Saturday, and then on Sunday you’re going to want to go to The Fainting Goat on 14th street and U Street and I’ll tell you why…

For this: the real star of the show, which is their Spring Gazpacho; cool cucumber, avocado, lobster and herbs, drizzled with olive oil. It was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever tried and I would shamelessly drink large quantities of this in a cup. I don’t even care. It was THAT good! You’re not going to want to share this one, I’m warning you now. It was the perfect complement to a hot summer day in DC.

They’ve also got a pretty solid burger for brunch. Simple; just cheddar cheese, pickles and sweet tomato jam with thick-cut wedges on the side. A pretty solid 10.
The Fainting Goat also offers bottomless mimosas and other libations if that’s your thing.
So you just had brunch a couple hours ago and all the walking around the National Mall made you super hungry. Now what?
Next you’ll want to visit Founding Farmers for nice sit-down dinner.
*Advice: this place gets slammed packed on the weekend so make reservations ahead of time!
Founding Farmers likes to keep things simple and let the fresh ingredients do all the talking. Nothing too crazy here, but that’s what will you keep you coming back.
Calories don’t count on vacation, right? Oh good. We can keep going then with another burger. Order their goat cheese burger and you will not be disappointed– especially if you are like me and enjoy fresh goat cheese!

It’s got the fresh goat cheese taste and a perfectly light and delicious cucumber salad wedged inside to complement it. This is my favorite burger right now and I will drive all the way just for more!
Now for chilled drinks. What’s vacation without a Mai Tai, right? Founding Farmers does classic drinks right with a modern twist. The same concept of high-quality fresh ingredients applies here as well. Check out their “Improved Mai Tai” made with avua plata cachaca, blackwell rum orgeat, lime, curaçao and tiki bitters. The perfect drink to cool off with after spending an entire hot afternoon walking the busy DC streets.

My trip to DC would not be complete without a little something sweet. Zombie Donuts are pretty good and remind quite a bit of Duck Donuts. Maybe it’s their yellow cakey formula?
Any who, I can never say no to maple glaze and bacon donuts. They were warm and fresh and quite good!

What are your favorite spots to eat in DC? Let me know so I can visit them next! Until next bite!
