Whether you’re looking for some quality bar food or just looking to enjoy a cold brew, The Raleigh Times is the ideal spot in Downtown Raleigh.

To understand the concept, you must know its history. The 100-year-old building was previously home to hundreds of newspapers, dating back to the late 1800s. You can read the complete history on their website and learn a little bit about their local history. The building inside has a very nice rustic charm with a second floor for additional seating and a newly renovated roof top patio with great views of the city.
But let’s get to talking– the real reason you’re here is because you want to know what’s good. My favorite thing about this place is that literally just about anything you are going to order is fantastic because it’s made from the best quality and always fresh. Raleigh Times has their own unique take on signature bar fare and handcrafted cocktails. Quality is key.

For lunch I like to order their grilled pimento cheese sandwich on wheat with fried green tomatoes. It is a true Southern super-indulging dish and absolutely delicious! The homemade pimento cheese pairs quite nicely with the lightly fried green tomato. You can pair this with a side of their homemade seasoned potato chips or a light salad. The choice is yours, but if you’re going to order this you might as well go big or go home (except if you’re feeling especially guilty and order a salad like I did and that’s okay too).

They carry a decent selection of brews and make a mean old fashioned. There’s something here for everyone.

If you’re just craving a bar snack, I highly recommend their nachos. They come with all the usually nacho toppings but you get to choose from chicken tinga, black beans, or my favorite– the pit-cooked NC BBQ pulled pork. The chips themselves are homemade, thick and tasty alone! Imagine adding the deliciously-cooked pulled pork to these already fantastic nachos. Order this for your table but don’t expect it to last long.
Raleigh is all about locally made and grown and Raleigh Times really embraces the culture. Their dedication to quality makes them stand out from the rest. I also absolutely love visiting the Morning Times next door, owned by parent company Empire Eats.Come here if you want to enjoy locally roasted coffee, fresh baked goods and a unique spin on breakfast menu items. My favorite is the grown up grilled cheese: ham, swiss, cheddar, smoked gouda and BACON JAM on sour dough. Yes, BACON JAM! It really brings this hot sandwich together and adds that familiar flavor. You also can’t go wrong with their lox bagel with house-cured salmon, a deliciously whipped onion cream cheese spread, chopped boiled egg, and capers all on a homemade bagel.
Until next bite!
