Exclusive craft beer and crispy fried things always have a special place in my heart.
Kush is located in Wynwood, which is also known as the most hipster part of Miami. It’s a tiny hole-in-the-wall that barely sits 20 but somehow they manage to fit everyone in comfortably. At night the place is well hidden, and we sat in one of the two benches located outside the restaurant.
If it wasn’t for the knowledgeable and nice staff, we wouldn’t have felt like we were part of the Kush experience. The inside décor mirrors the heavy art-influenced neighborhood that is Wynwood, giving it a very low-key vibe that is casually cool.
I started off with a new beer I hadn’t tried yet—the Ommegang Abbey Ale which I found to be very good. It’s a huge perk that the beer was cold on this hot Miami night, and served to me in a glorious Game of Thrones cup (Alas! House Targaryen, and not Lannister nor Stark…), earning serious brownie points from me which I will gladly award.
My friends ordered the alligator bites and their tomato soup, accompanied by a delicious grilled cheese sandwich. The sandwich its self is great, but their savory tomato soup steals the spotlight. It’s very homey and full of spices and deliciousness….just wow. Soo tasty!
The alligator bites are one thing I swore I wouldn’t try. Well, I tried them and it didn’t take much to convince me to have a bite. Let’s just say their alligator bites are crispy perfection and probably my favorite thing on their menu. The garlic sauce that comes with it complements it perfectly! Just wow. These two dishes (tomato soup and alligator bites) were my favorite things.
I also ordered their fried pickles (fried in tempura batter) which were okay, but just didn’t ‘wow’ me. Next came my chicken and waffles. Now, I have been on a long and serious search for THE best chicken and waffles in Miami…

It’s a large portion of Belgium waffles sprinkled with bacon crumbles and powdered sugar and then tasty, crispy chicken served on top with a side of maple syrup. The dish was very fresh and good, but I wouldn’t go as far to say that they are the “best in Miami” like they claim to be. It’s a good solid dish, but it didn’t impress me. At least not as much as their alligator bites and tomato soup did. Sadly, I’ve had much better chicken and waffles in Miami.
The other dishes that my friends ordered looked pretty good. I did enjoy their fried John Doe dessert, which is essentially fried waffles with cinnamon and fresh berries. Not bad.
I recommend this place to anyone that enjoys the Wynwood area and some good food. You’ll find anything in this menu—from alligator bites and burgers, to slightly more refined dishes. It’s a little pricey, but their craft beer selection is really good and they even have a secret beer list, cleverly called “the list.” They carry local selections, smaller breweries, to even more popular ones. Chances are they probably have whatever you’re looking for and if not, just ask their knowledgeable staff—I love coming to a place where staff is passionate about their own food, that’s always a great sign.
Until next bite!
